Physiotherapy FAQ's

Physiotherapy is an evidence-based clinical management of injuries and movement conditions. All our physiotherapists have undergone post-graduate training to ensure you are receiving the most current and efficient care. Balance North physiotherapy may involve the combination of hands-on therapy, exercise and education to help their clients overcome injuries.

Physiotherapists are also trained in exercise assessment and prescription and can help guide you to prevent injuries or enhance sport performance. Our physiotherapists work with a wide range of clients from different age groups and activity levels.

No, physios are primary healthcare practitioners and private patients do not need a GP or specialist referral to see your physiotherapist.

A referral is only required if you are claiming the services through a third-party source (workers compensation insurance, TAC, DVA).

Physio can help with a multiple range of injuries and pain including spinal pain, movement disorders, sport injuries, arthritis joint pain, prenatal care and more. If you are not sure if a physio can help with your problem, please reach out and contact us – one of our physios will talk to you about your problem prior to booking.

Your first physiotherapy session will be 45 minutes. This longer consult time allows the physiotherapist to listen to your information, assess appropriately and provide a treatment plan without rush.

Subsequent review sessions are 30 minutes. Extended consults are available on request for complex or reviews for multiple injury sites.

Longer appointment times are needed for prenatal/ postnatal sessions to complete a thorough assessment and develop a treatment plan. Our physiotherapists have completed extra training in pregnancy care and are passionate about providing thorough treatment and client education.

Each injury presents differently for each individual and we are unable to give a specific number of sessions prior to consultation.

However, at the end of your first consultation your physio will provide an outline of your treatment plan and anticipated sessions needed after a thorough assessment.

Balance North physiotherapists do not believe in over-treating conditions and aim to assist you in an efficient manner.

You do not need to bring anything with you. However, if you have any relevant medical notes (including x-ray/ scan reports, medical referral letters, surgical reports), please bring this to your appointment as it will help the physiotherapist gain a better understanding of your injury and implement a treatment plan.

We advise wearing comfortable and loose-fitting clothing. During the physical examination you may be asked to expose the injured area to allow for assessment. We advise wearing shorts for all lower limb injuries. At Balance North, your modesty and comfort are important to us and to be respected at all times.

If you are running late, please let our centre know as soon as possible. The physio may be able to replan their diary to accommodate you or reschedule your session to another time.

We request that you let the centre know if you cannot make an appointment to allow good diary management for our staff and help us avoid having to turn clients away when our diaries are fully booked. Missed appointments are an inconvenience to the clinic and other clients wishing to book in for a session. Please read our late note policy for more information.

Depending on your insurance plan you may be eligible for a rebate with your health fund. Claims can be processed at the time of appointment through HICAPS so the client only needs to pay the gap payment.

If you are unsure of your rebate amount, we advise contacting your insurance provider to enquire about your physiotherapy extras cover.

Medicare provide rebates for appointments if you are able to access a “chronic disease management” plan from your GP. This referral will allow you to access up to five sessions at a reduced cost. Please note that a gap payment still applies.
