Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists provide evidence-based clinical management of injuries and movement conditions.

Balance North physiotherapy may involve the combination of hands-on therapy, exercise and education to help clients overcome injuries.

Exercise assessment and prescription can help guide you to prevent injuries or enhance sport performance. We work with a wide range of clients from different age groups and activity levels.

Vestibular Physiotherapy

Vestibular physiotherapy is a specialised field within physiotherapy focused on diagnosing and managing symptoms related to the vestibular system, such as balance, dizziness and vertigo.

Your physiotherapist will begin with a thorough assessment of your symptoms, which may include performing specific tests. Based on this evaluation, they can often diagnose your condition and develop a tailored treatment plan.

In some cases, your physiotherapist may refer you to a neurologist for additional evaluations, which might involve hearing tests, brain MRI scans, blood tests, and further balance function assessments.

Vestibular physiotherapy typically includes exercises aimed at:

  • Inducing mild dizziness to help your vestibular system adapt and accept the sensation (habituation exercises).

  • Enhancing coordination between your eyes and head.

  • Strengthening and challenging your vestibular balance system while walking.

  • Your physiotherapist might also employ techniques such as the Epley maneuver to alleviate vertigo symptoms.

HEAL (Rehab & Strength)

Our HEAL (Rehab & Strength) classes are small, supportive sessions (capped at 4 participants) led by an experienced physiotherapist. Each participant follows their own personalised exercise program tailored to their specific needs. The exercises are chosen using an evidence-based approach, incorporating clinical Pilates, joint mobility, and low-impact strengthening or balance exercises. Unlike our Strength & Conditioning classes, these sessions are designed to bridge the gap between your acute or subacute injuries and the functional goals you’ve established with your practitioner during your exercise assessment. At the start of each session, the physiotherapist will check in on your condition and adjust the class to meet your current needs. The class duration is 45 minutes and a physiotherapist will be present at all times during the session.

Our physio group exercise classes are small class groups of maximum four participants led by physiotherapists. Physio-led group exercise classes are claimable with your private health insurance cover. Please note clients are required to have an exercise assessment and 3x 1:1 exercise sessions with a physio before attending these classes.

EMPOWER (Strength & Conditioning)

Our EMPOWER (Strength & Conditioning) classes take a more advanced approach to clinical rehabilitation, offering a small-group environment (up to 4 participants). Led by our skilled physiotherapists, these sessions focus on performance-driven exercises tailored to your specific goals. Whether you’re returning to sport, improving technique, or seeking a more challenging workout, this class is designed to build strength, enhance movement quality, and boost overall performance.

We use an evidence-based approach, blending functional strength training, expert guidance on complex lifts, and key components of our standard PGE classes – emphasising progression and performance. At the start of each session, your physiotherapist will check in with you and adapt your program as needed.

Each 45-minute session is fully supervised to ensure safe and effective training, pushing your limits while prioritising injury prevention.

Physio-led group exercise classes are claimable with your private health insurance cover. Please note clients are required to have an exercise assessment and one 1:1 exercise session with a physio before attending these classes.

Massage

Our massage therapists are highly trained and work closely within the allied health team to treat a wide range of conditions.

Common conditions include chronic pain, sports and soft tissue injuries, muscle cramps, low back pain, recovery after exercise, and stress related conditions. At Balance North we offer both remedial and relaxation massage types.

Remedial massage is specified treatment for injuries, chronic pain and/or body management. Our therapists are also able to add cupping, which can provide added fascial release to your treatment. Cupping can also be included at no additional cost, allowing your therapist to tailor the session to your individual needs (please note that cupping is available with select therapists).

Relaxation massage is designed to balance and ground you to uplift and promote focus and calm in the body and mind. We offer a signature relaxation massage, as well as deep tissue for a firmer treatment.

We also offer Hot Stone Massage as part of our treatment options. Hot Stone Massage is a deeply relaxing experience that uses smooth, heated basalt stones to enhance your massage. The gentle warmth helps release muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote a sense of calm and balance throughout the body.

This treatment can be included in both Relaxation and Remedial massages with Ellen, adding soothing heat and comfort to support recovery and overall wellbeing.

Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiologists prescribe, design and evaluate exercise programs to improve the physical function and quality of life of people with chronic conditions and health issues. Exercise physiologists focus on the physiology of physical exercise, including how the body responds and adapts to different physical exercises.

Our exercise physiologists conduct thorough assessments to identify each client’s unique needs and create tailored exercise programs. These programs may incorporate various modalities such as pilates, strength and conditioning, aerobic capacity, flexibility and balance training.

They provide ongoing support and counselling on how to maintain an active lifestyle and make sure that exercise programs are safe, effective and appropriate for each individual client. Our exercise physiologists will monitor your progress and adjust the program accordingly to ensure optimal results.

At Balance North, our exercise physiology services are available to clients with a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan or Type 2 Diabetes care plan from their GP. These plans enable you to receive a Medicare rebate for each session.
